Abstract

Multimedia solution availability is a key point for desktop users' adoption. GStreamer provides a generic framework for the multimedia solution on GNOME. All the media applications can thus focus on the GUI and better integrate with the internet. GStreamer will fully be in charge of the media playback.

Songbird is a cross-platform media player application built on top of Mozilla's XULRunner platform and utilizes the GStreamer media framework for media playback. Besides the media player role, Songbird is also embedded with a web browser:
- The Mozilla extension system applies to Songbird. There are hundreds of extensions available to aggregate different data sources into Songbird.
- The Songbird webpage API enables the ability to embed player functionality into a web site so it can interact with the Songbird media player.

In this talk, the speaker will discuss about the GStreamer framework on GNOME and how the media applications use this framework. He will then introduce Songbird's ability to mashup with the web and give some demos. Hopefully, there could be some discussion on how the audiences expect to have for the multimedia solution afterwards and some idea sharing.
